Pre-appointment checks
Police appointments require confidence in identity, integrity, suitability and the candidate's ability to meet the conditions of the post.
The exact checks depend on the role and are stated in the campaign. They can include identity and eligibility verification, police vetting or security clearance where required, references or service-history checks, integrity and conduct checks, and any other lawful role-specific requirement.
Selection is not yet appointment
Being selected to continue, receiving a provisional indication or entering vetting does not itself make a candidate a police officer or member of police staff. Appointment is confirmed only when the recruitment process has been completed.
